Welcome to Ignition Tennis! Here’s a little bit of information about us…
Ignition Tennis is run by Director James Wescott and his team of dedicated coaches and administrative staff. Our aim is to provide coaching provisions for clubs and schools and try to instill the passion that we have for tennis into the generations that we teach.
James has over 20 years of experience in tennis and started his coaching career at Woodland LTC and Greenacre Leisure Centre in Newbury where as part of a large coaching team, he helped develop a successful programme for juniors aged from 3-18 year olds - growing the Junior Programme to over 300 children per week including a strong performance programme with several players attending county, regional and national training squads. Ignition also provide a strong adult programme as we firmly believe in providing coaching for all ages and standards.
James is backed up by a great team of coaches and administrative staff, with most of the coaches being taught by James when they were younger!
MEET THE COACHES
James has been coaching since 2008 after deciding to make the switch from selling IT equipment to teaching tennis. In that time, he has worked hard to become an LTA Senior Club Coach (Level 4) whilst gaining valuable experience on court too, including working alongside internationally recognised coaches.
James started playing tennis at the age of 16 at his local club in Tilehurst and was very proud to hold the position of Head Coach at the very same club, Woodland, when he embarked on his coaching career 13 years later!
Away from the court, James is an avid Manchester United fan - the best match he’s been to being the 2008 Champions League Final in Moscow - and a doting dad to his four year old daughter.
James is Head Coach at Malmesbury LTC in Wiltshire.
Trystan started playing tennis when he was three years old in Southampton, before moving to Thatcham aged ten. He then started competing at regional level and played for the Berkshire county team.
He started assisting at Greenacre Leisure aged 14 before getting his qualifications and started to coach full-time aged 17. He is a Licensed Level 3 LTA coach and is looking to complete more qualifications in the near future.
Away from coaching he still enjoys playing at a high level and watching Manchester United.
James started playing tennis when he was eleven years old at Greenacre Leisure Centre and Park House School. He started assisting at Greenacre aged 16 and has achieved his LTA Level 1, 2 and 3 tennis coaching qualifications.
In 2015, James finished his final year in sixth form at Park House and studied Physical Education, Psychology and Sociology at A Level. Since leaving school, he has completed an apprenticeship with Ignition Tennis, achieving his LTA Level 3 qualification, and is now working full-time with us.
His favourite tennis player is Roger Federer due to his creativity and the way he makes everything look effortless. James’ best assets as a player are his rapid speed around the court and his dominant first serve!
Away from tennis, James is an avid Arsenal FC supporter and also volunteers at a local youth centre for autistic children.
James is our Head Coach at Woodland LTC as well as heading up our ever-growing School Programme.
The Little Desk is owned and run by Alix Sidwell and has been part of the Ignition admin team since early 2015.
